IS THAT TRUE WHEN I BECOME A MUSLIM, I MUST CHANGE MY NAME AND PUT "BIN ABDULLAH" AS MY FATHER NAME?
Once upon a time, The father told to his child
"YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY RELIGION THAT YOU WANT BUT ONE THIS ONE"....
And the child ask the Father. "ONLY ONE? WHAT IS THAT?"
The Father answered "MALAY RELIGION".
This advice always told to us (Who was came from Non-Muslim family). Parents don't want their family be a "MALAY" people because for them, their tradition must not be changed. For example, We always told by Malay Muslims that if you want to be a Muslim, you must CHANGE you name to Arabic name. Majority Malay community (many of them are Muslim) use Arabic name such as Abu Bakar, Umar and so on. But according to my research, If someone want to be a Muslim, They don't need to change their name if they want to stay with their origin name. Maybe Malay Muslim don't agree with this idea but I will stand with my statement with a Proofs.
First, do you know that actually many Malay Muslim not use Arabic word only to put in their name? Ok...
let see. Have you heard this name were used by Malay Muslims ; MUSA, HARUS, YAHYA, ISHAK, SULAIMAN, ISA AND YAAKOB? Do you know that this word actually are not Arabic word but It a Hebrew language (The language were spoken by Jew People). Do you think that many Malay Muslims are Jew people because use that name? No... the answer is
in ISLAM, you can use any language that you want to be as you name even if you want use Chinese word. But the name that you choose must bring a good meaning.
During the Prophet Muhammad (Bless and upon Him), many Arab tribes embrace Islam and Prophet Muhammad (Bless and upon Him) adviced to them to change their name because their name bring a bad meaning. Even if they are Arab people but Prophet advice to them to change their name.
DO YOU KNOW IN ISLAM THAT WE CAN'T CHANGE OUR FATHER NAME? IF YOU DO LIKE THAT, YOU COMMIT A SIN..... YOUR FATHER NAME CAN'T BE CHANGE.....
I believe that the name you have now are bring a good meaning because OF COURSE YOU PARENTS GIVE THE BEST MEANING TO YOU WHEN YOU WAS BORN IN THIS WORLD.
SO.... YOU DON'T NEED TO PUT "BIN ABDULLAH" AS YOUR FATHER NAME BUT USE ORIGIN NAME ....
Many people don't know about it (Even Malay Muslims don't know about this fact)
That why, We need a DIALOG to make all of this MISUNDERSTOOD vanished.
As conclusion,
YOU DON'T NEED TO CHANGE YOUR NAME IF YOU EMBRACE ISLAM. ACTUALLY IT A MALAY TRADITION TO CHANG FROM YOUR ORIGIN NAME TO ARABIC NAME. ISLAM IS UNIVERSAL.
ISLAM IS EASY BUT SOME PEOPLE MAKE IT HARD.

" MALAY=ISLAM"? OR "ISLAM=MALAY"?
Assalamualaikum
To all people (muslim or non-muslim). I just create this blog for anyone who want to know about ISLAM especially for non-muslim. Many non-muslim in Malaysia misunderstood about this religion, they said that " Islam equal to Malay". How it can be? maybe Malay people can say that this statement are wrong but unfortunately Malay people don't know that is what non-Malay people think. I'm not blame to non-Muslim because as we know, when someone (Chinese or Indian) became muslim or embrace Islam, Malay community don't teach to that person about the truth of Islam but more teach that person be a "MALAY". That is a conflict of identity.
REMEMBER...
When someone embrace Islam, they don't need left their family, friend and culture as long as it not contradiction with religion (Islam). That is the biggest mistake why many Chinese and Indian community hate this religion. Islam for all mandkind, not just for who are born in muslim family only. I hope you can give any opinion about this matter. I'm so open minded, even the question are so sensitive, I will try to answer it. I know many of you have misunderstood about Islam.
